Long ago, my dream was to be successful, which meant making enough money to afford a beautiful home, nice car and all the luxuries. I wasn’t born into a wealthy family, so I knew I would have to work hard for what I wanted. I started researching careers that made over 6 figures. I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field and naturally Nurse Practitioner caught my eye. From that moment on, I spent all my time in nursing school, and eventually NP school.

I thought once I graduated and started earning 6 figures- I made it. That was my definition of success. Little did I know, I would end up trading my time and freedom for a 6 figure income. I landed a great job when I graduated and the trade off was worth it in the beginning. I was able to live a pretty comfortable life, drive a nice car, go on vacations etc. But the moment I became a mother- everything changed….

I no longer wanted to trade my time for money, even if it meant a 6 figure income. I wanted to stay home with my baby but I knew if I did- I wouldn’t be able to afford the life I worked so hard for. During my maternity leave, I had to decide between quitting my job to stay home and raise my son, or going back to work so I could continuing earning 6 figures.

That’s when I realized that success (no matter your job title, level of education or salary) wasn’t working for money. Success was putting money to work for you, so that you no longer have to trade valuable time for money. My new definition of success was earning passive income while staying home to raise my son.
